Work Studies
Work Studies is offered at both Year 11 and 12 level. Students enrolling in Work Studies will also have the opportunity to enrol in Structured Workplace Learning (SWL), an accredited School Curriculum and Standards Authority subject.
General Aims of Work Studies
To develop an understanding of the nature and significance of the changing world of work, and the relationship between the world of work and personal characteristics, such as aptitudes, values and interests.To develop in students the curiosity, knowledge base, generic skills and personal attributes that can be advantageously applied throughout life.To develop those competencies in students that enable them to play a significant part in influencing the nature and direction of present and future changes in the world of work, and to be adaptive to change.To assist students to recognise their present engagement in education itself, what constitutes a work role as well as a preparation for other work roles for other work roles within the total world of work.To provide an environment which enables students to envision, explore, develop and implement plans for their future paid and unpaid work roles.
Within the above five aims there are two interdependent areas:
1. The development of transferable skills such as:
- decision making
- communication (oral and written)
- problem solving
- leadership
- teamwork
- enquiry skills
- goal setting
- stress management
- self exploration
- coping with change
- study and time management skills
2. The study of the world of work:
- Satisfactory completion of this course provides Credit Points for entry to all T.A.F.E. courses.
