Year 11 Modern History ATAR
Overview
The Modern History ATAR course enables students to study the forces that have shaped today's world and provides them with a broader and deeper comprehension of the world in which they live.
Future Applications:
Through study of societies, movements and political structures, they are well prepared for careers involving policy making, administration and research. Learning the skills of critical inquiry is essential for people working in business, government, law, health, science, academia, industry, tourism, environment, media and the arts.
Topics
Unit 1 - Understanding the Modern World
- Capitalism - the American Experience 1907-1941 - The focus for this unit will be the social, political and economic changes that spread throughout the United States after WWI.
Unit 2 - Movements for change in the 20th Century
- Nazism in Germany -The focus for this unit is the movement of Nazism and the impact it had on transforming society.

Student formulated inquiry
20-30% Explanation
Extended writing
20-30% Source Analysis
Evaluation of primary and secondary source material
30% Examination
The exam comprises a combination of the Explanation and Source Analysis assessment types

A grade will be assigned following the completion of the course unit.

Student Expectations/Homework
Students will be expected to complete approximately 2.5 hours of homework each week. This time should be spent consolidating material covered in class as well as any assigned tasks.
