Year 12 Modern History ATAR
Overview
The Modern History ATAR course enables students to study the forces that have shaped today's world and provides them with a broader and deeper comprehension of the world in which they live.
Future Applications:
Through study of societies, movements and political structures, they are well prepared for careers involving policy making, administration and research. Learning the skills of critical inquiry is essential for people working in business, government, law, health, science, academia, industry, tourism, environment, media and the arts.
Topics
Unit 3 - Modern nations in the 20th century
- Russia and the Soviet Union 1914-1945 (World War I to the end of World War II) - the focus of the unit is the crises that challenged the stability of government, the path of development that was taken and the social, economic and political order that was either established or maintained.
Unit 4 - The modern world since 1945
- The struggle for peace in the Middle East - the focus for this unit is the nature of various conflicts and regional and international attempts to create peace and security.

Evaluation of primary and secondary source material
40% Examination
The exam comprises a combination of the Explanation and Source Analysis assessment types

A grade will be assigned following the completion of the course unit.

Student Expectations/Homework
Students will be expected to complete approximately 3 hours of homework each week. This time should be spent consolidating material covered in class as well as any assigned tasks.
