Year 8 Humanities and Social Sciences
Overview
The main aim of the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) course is to develop the skills, understandings and values that will enable students to participate in a more informed and effective manner in today's society.

Democracy and law in action
Economics and Business
Participation and influences in the market place
Geography
Landforms and landscapes and Changing nations
History
The ancient to the modern world; Medieval Europe and the Black Death
Assessment
Students will undertake the following types of assessments and weightings:
Skills: 30% | Research: 30% | Minor Work: 10% | Examination: 30%
Examinations will take place at the end of Semesters One and Two and will cover key content of the units covered.
Reporting
Achievement for HASS will be reported as a College A - E grade. In addition, the student's approach to class work and behaviour will be reported via key performance indicators.
Student Expectations - Homework
Students will be expected to complete approximately 60 minutes of homework each week. This time should be spent consolidating material covered in class as well as any assigned tasks.
