Year 7 Mathematics
Overview
In Year 7, students will learn the relevant content of the Australian Curriculum. They will interpret integers in real world contexts. They will make connections between whole numbers and index notation. They will move flexibly between representations of fractions, decimals and percentages. Students will generalise using variables, solve simple linear equations and identify points on the Cartesian plane. They will compare costs of items to make financial decisions. Students will investigate questions involving the collection of a range of data. They will calculate mean, mode, median and range for sets of data and describe the relationship between median and mode in data displays. Students will classify triangles and quadrilaterals and establish the formulas for the area and perimeter of rectangles. They will calculate the volume of rectangular prisms and draw and build three dimensional objects. They will identify angles formed by a transversal through parallel lines and describe transformations on the Cartesian plane.
Read more about additional support available in Semester Two.
Topics
- Number concepts
- Fractions, decimals and percentages

Assessments
Assessment will include investigations 20% which require application of acquired knowledge to new situations and problem solving ability | tests 80%
Reporting
The achievement for the course will be reported as a College A - E grade in both Semester One and Semester Two. In addition, the student's approach to class work and behaviour will be reported via the usual key performance indicators.
Student expectations
Students are expected to:
- bring the required text, calculator and stationery to each lesson
- complete regular homework from a variety of sources including the text, worksheets and MathsOnline
- be aware of assessment dates and have prepared thoroughly for each assessment
- be proactive in seeking help from the teacher when required
