Material Technology
Year 7
Materials Design and Technology course provides students with an introduction to the workshop environment focusing on safe and cooperative procedures. Students learn basic skills in the use of hand tools and machines and work with a variety of materials. This is a term based subject.
Year 8
This is a semester based subject. Each class will be reminded and called to work in a safe and cooperative manner. Students will have the opportunity to build on foundational introduction to Materials through woodwork in this course. Students will develop their skills through the three projects that target specific skills and knowledge acquisition. Each project will be accompanied with an AutoCad drawing and project folio through Explain Everything, PowerPoint or Prezi through use of their iPads.
Year 9
Material Design and Technology 1/Woodwork 1.
Students are introduced to the Design Process and develop skills making projects in a variety of materials and use AutoCad drawings. Each class will be reminded and called to work in a safe and cooperative manner. Each project will accompanied with an AutoCad drawing and an efolio using PowerPoint, Explain Everything or Prezi to record this.
Year 9
Students are introduced to some common electrical components within their first task. Using this knowledge soldering exercise are tackled, once mastered a variety of packaged kits are constructed using these new found skills and knowledge.
Year 9
Material Design and Technology 2/Woodwork 2.
This course is a further development of Material Design and Technology 1, many students that this opportunity to build or plan larger projects over the academic year. Each class will be reminded and called to work in a safe and cooperative manner.
Year 10
Material Design and Technology
The course enables students to use a wide range of machines and processes to construct projects in wood, metal, plastic or other material. There is an ongoing emphasis on working in a safe and cooperative manner.
